well i missed yesterday by 2 hours
just as i thought, my sleepy plan didnt work out.
i dont have lectures today so i think ill try to stay awake through the day and get to sleep at a decent time.
it wont work of course. ill tell you how badly it went tomorrow.
well i was right and i was wrong. right about it not working (i went to sleep a couple of hours after posting that), wrong about posting tomorrow - i missed it by about 2 hours.
i went to sleep at 1.30, woke up at 8 and then went back to sleep again at ~7.30 thursday morning, only to wake up again at 11.30 to hand in some work id spent the night before doing. then i went to the students union agm. then i went out for my neighbours 21st. then i got back home and blogged about my day. then i went to bed, but im getting ahead of myself there.
SUSU AGM
something which was made clear to me today: despite having some great council members(this year at least), the swansea union is the vice chancellors bitch. or at least has been the past couple of years since he came in.
See this is his third year here, and when he got here 2 and a bit years ago the first thing he did was shut down 5 departments. of course people were slightly perturbed, but he reassured students currently studying in those courses that they would be able to continue until the end of their studys.
could
they
fuck
at easter, just when they were gearing up to prepare for their final exams, students in those departments were told they had to change course or get the fuck out of swansea.
to make it even worse, he didnt make any announcement to the staff who would be losing their jobs, or the students who would suffer from the closures: the cheeky bastard went straight to the papers. there wasnt a consultation, in any strict sense of the word, but after the announcement was made there was a period where people could voice their complaints on deaf ears.
link
at least thats the way i heard it from other students.
and now the bastard wants to sell the student village - where i stayed last year - without offering any way to house the displaced students.
We are looking at (selling) Hendrefoilan because it is a valuable site right in the middle of a housing area. We are conscious how much value is tied up in that site.
basically, the university is growing, and needs new facilities to cope with the higher number of students expected. so theyre selling student accommodation. does anyone else think thats a little bit stupid? clearly if youre expecting more students, the last thing you want to do is to sell off the flats that youre keeping them in.
and hes done all of this without consulting the students union about it. i thought the idea was that universities were run for the benefit of students? so how come this guy doesnt give a fuck what we think?
i think this guy sees himself as some kind of cross between blair and thatcher: the media sense(i think he goes to the papers to make announcements so he can get the story told the way he wants it to be, without having people bitching all over the same paper) and bizarre reorganisations of blair (example: as levels); and the union-ignoring, dominatrix bitch parts from thatcher.
im just hoping we can get some good old fashioned protesting done. theres already one on monday after next to protest against the unis arms shares.
The group has listed an "Ivy League" of the ten biggest investors, which together hold at least 33 million shares in six firms.
The group includes Cambridge and Oxford universities, which combined hold more than 3 million shares, and Swansea, Liverpool, Exeter, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham universities.
end rant
that went on longer than i thought it would. sorry.
the rest of my day was th esame old story: had dinner, went out, had a bit to drink, went to a super cheesy club, had some more to drink, went home, had food, woke up housemates, blog, stopped blog to let friends in to use the bog, stayed up talking for a bit(mostly about how early we had to get up in the morning, and how we really should be getting to bed), more blog, see what the time is, finish blog, then finally bed. i said at the beginning of the post that i missed thursday by 2 hours, but its more like 4 hours now.
and after all that effort getting my sleep back to normal. tomorrow ill tell about the trolley, i promise.
link to light amusement
wait for it

Nano Superlattice Technology Inc. (OTCBB Symbol: NSLT) is a nanotechnology company engaged in the coating of tools and components with nano structured PVD coatings for high-tech industries.
Nano utilizes Arc Bond Sputtering and Superlattice technology to apply multi-layers of super-hard elemental coatings on an array of precision products to achieve a variety of physical properties. The application of the coating on industrial products is designed to change their physical properties, improving a product's durability, resistance, chemical and physical characteristics as well as performance. Nano's super-hard alloy coating materials were especially developed for printed circuit board drills in response to special market requirements
The cutting of circuit boards causes severe wear on the cutting edge of drills and routers. With the increased miniaturization of personal electronics devices the dimensions of holes and cut aways are currently less than 0.2 mm. Nano coats tools with an ultra thin coating (only a few nanometers in thickness) of nitrides which can have a hardness of up to half that of diamond. This has proven to increase tool life by almost ten times. Nano plans to continue research and development into these techniques due to the vast application range for this type of nanotechnology
We believe that Nano is a company on the move. With todays steady move towards miniaturization we feel that Nano is a company with the right product at the right time. It is our opinion that an investment in Nano will produce great returns for our readers.
